Robinson Crusoe

2012 : Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates

8th to 15th January 2012

The Story

The story of the ‘Robinson Crusoe Panto’ opens at the Sea Dog Inn, on the Quayside at Bobbin-in-the-Briny, when Blackbeard, the infamous pirate arrives. The townspeople find him to be a bully and fear him, all except Robinson Crusoe, who protects them from his nasty ways.

Robinson lives with his mother and brother, Willy, who as his Mother says, is ‘delicate.’ Willy is in love with Bessie Bowsprit and wishes to marry her but her father Captain Bowsprit, who owns his own boat, considers him not good enough for his daughter.

Robinson receives a letter telling him his Great Uncle has died and left him his fortune but it turns out to be an old sea chest, with nothing in it but an old piece of paper which they found to be a treasure map. After a great deal of planning, he, his family and a few friends hire the boat off the Captain and set sail to find the treasure.

Blackbeard finds out what they are doing and persuades his henchman Patch, to go with him as boat crew members, so that they can steal the map and get the treasure. Their boat is followed and attacked by a Pirate Ship led by a masked female pirate known as Crimson Hawk and when she gets the map she gives them their freedom but before they can leave there is an explosion, set by Blackbeard, and the cry of abandon ship is heard.

Robinson and his companions escape and after many hazards to overcome they find themselves on a desert island where they meet a native, who they name Man Friday. Blackbeard and Patch have also arrived on the island dragging Captain Bowsprit along with them. Crimson Hawk then joins them and drives Blackbeard and Patch away then leads Robinson and his companions to the treasure.

Robinson is surprised to find out that Polly, the barmaid from the Sea Dog Inn, is the Pirate Crimson Hawk, and in the end as all tales do they celebrate two weddings between Robinson & Polly Perkins, and Willy and Bessie Bowsprit.
